Kyoto Uzuma Game Festa and more2011/12/21

Hey there, this is Daniel from AGM / PLAYISM.

It’s just about Christmastime, in fact it’s just a few days away.

Which also means it’s been quite a while since I last posted… suffice to say, it’s been a busy few months!

In between all the work, we managed to make an appearance at the Kyoto Uzuma Game Festa in November.  The event was held as part of a larger renewal going at at the Toei Uzuma Studio Village, and I must say it was a blast to be able to walk around and explore the studios.

While I didn’t see any ninja or samurai, there where a number of cosplayers who certainly came dressed all out (someone MUST have pictures -I’ll post them if I can dig them up.)

Best of all though, we got to show off some of the games we feature on PLAYISM first-hand to the show-goers, many of whom are not gamers (my favorite kind of person to show games to!)

All in all, it was a good time and I would certainly like to be back next year.

Moving on, in my last post (which was also my first post) I promised to discuss what kind of folks work at AGM.

The short is answer is: all kinds.

You’d be hard pressed to find another company in Osaka with as many nationalities as we have, speaking as many languages as we do. A quick look around my immediate area and I am greeted by a programmer from Australia, a web designer from the Philippines, a content manager from America, our German marketing director and (although it’s not his normal seat) our lead project manager in charge of localization -who is Napolitan (he assures me that being from Naples makes him different from other Italians…) You would think this could make communication tricky, but In addition to most of us being bilingual, a good number can speak two, three, and in one case five different languages. Not bad.

There is no one lingua franca of the office, but for the most part we either get along in English or Japanese.

In any case, with all of these different kinds of people it certainly makes drinking parties interesting!

That’s it for now, I’ll be back here posting again in the (hopefully) near future.
